So far, there is only one good topic for Ultra-Mega Blog-Off-Tron 2003.
Right now, I am simply waiting for my gigantic party to start. I food marinating in the fridge. Boxes of rice that are waiting to be opened. Jager in the fridge--for Will and Saraq--Goldschlager (for friends who just recently canceled).
And a half-keg on ice in the garage...
The Cubs Magic Number is One, thanks to Brian's lovely Brewers.
I would like to point out that if the Cubs manage to...god forbid, go all the way...I am so glad I am no longer at my old apartment. It'll be a yuppie-riot. Luxury cars and SUVs will be flipped over and set on fire. Micro-brews will flow through the streets. Fires will be set with over priced zippos. Boutiques will have their windows smashed.
People will be more smashed than usual.
All and all, a scary, scary sight.
Anyway, its true: I've set November--the week before T-day--to visit the Beloit HillBillies. Granted, from Brian and Debz description of HH, there seem to be more hillbillies in Bridgeport. However, given that HH is still SC, hillbilly jokes are always appropriate.

Not hairless, just cute. Sorry Andy.

Speaking of graves, I've got the Nightmare Before Christmas CD in for the first time this year- this and a nice spooky Ray Bradbury novel are my welcome to fall- Yeah! I'm absolutely giddy.
AND props to my peeps in South Carolina: Congrats to Brian on his promotion, and huzzah to Debz on her web-published movie reviews. Yeah!
What's everyone going to be for Halloween?

What happened to "the Blog contest?" (or as I would like to call it, the "blogntest," or "Ultra blog smack down 2003"). Still looking for a worthy topic? Religion, politics, Saturday morning cartoons?
In other quick news, I got another job. That's another job at my museum, in the afternoons I still work as the assistant for the Registration department, and now in the mornings I am the assistant for the AOA (Africa, Oceania and the Americas) department. Yeah! More money, cheaper health care, and some inroads back into the anthropological community (sort of). It seems to be going pretty well, but it is only my first day.
Will is toiling under the final days of a deadline, which is why he has been so silent/ absent of late (though I think he is checking in). I'm trying to keep him fully stocked with the coffee and cookies that he needs to sustain his energy- he gets up early, writes all day, and goes to bed late. He should be back amongst the blogging by Friday. We plan to his the Minnesota Ren. Faire then, followed by a quick trip down to Chicago for the Marty-Party.
P.S. Happy First day of Fall !!!

This may be of interest to everyone here:
I just found pictures from our freshman/sophomore year. This would be before Molly's-Zach-Ezra time.
I will be scaning them soon. I need a server to store them on.
I promise, they are worth it.
Kevin, Chris Knowles, Curly...
Me in a dress.
Yeah, good times.
Fuck. Now I miss you people.

This is why we are Saraq's friend. She's smart.
That is the first good suggestion we have gotten so far.
Brak vs. Strong Bad?

Alright, how about personal freedom vs. personal safety in relation to the peanut butter ban- I do think this is pretty interesting.
So far the choices are : Forbidden Love between a specific monkey and cat and
America as an enlightened democracy is neither enlightened nor a democracy
So far, I am not enthused.
How about the forbidden love between this monkey and cat?
Ladies and Gentlemen:
Brian and I are going to have a Blog contest.
We need a topic to write about...then we would like you to see whose blog was better.
This is to determine... um. Something.
So, what should we write about?

Some damn Chrysler commercial featuring the fedora car (PT Cruiser) sports a bit of Celine Dion music in which says asks the timeless question, "Isn't it ironical?"
Ironical. I get paid 3 cents a word and she gets a billion dollars for all but avoiding words altogether. The world makes me sad.
I went through drastic measures and wrote the lyrics for Beer by They Might be Giants on the other Beloit blog.
I'm making the same threat here: Post, or by the baby jesus, I'll do it here too.

I need to return a book to Barnes and Nobel (if they'll take returns, I dont know)- I screwed up, and a premise that I found interesting if set in 1899 (as I read the back cover to say) is MUCH less interesting when set in 1999 (as the cover revealed when I got it home).
Any good book recommendations?

How's about the folks on Fark who are positive on the campus but so negative on the townies? That's patently offensive. Is it the appearance of realistic problems and difficult financial situations that makes the Beloit population so untouchable to these people? Or is it the narrow-minded, categorical, and dismissive worldview of the Beloit bubble-head that decides ordinary people are ignoble filth?
The average student of the class of 2007 knows nothing about Ho Chi Minh the same way Tom McBride knows nothing about Archduke Ferdinand or Emperor Qin. I turned off the radio the other day when NPR's annual story about the mindset list came on.
I’m going to take this opportunity to say how much I despise the Beloit “Mindset List.” The whole “blank has never (or always) been blank” statement is so offensive. The assumption that students know nothing of history (social or political), or cannot comprehend it is ridiculous. Also, are we to assume that everyone in the class of “whatever year the list is geared to” have the same background? Is “’Ctrl + Alt + Del’ is as basic as ‘ABC’” to a kid who’s family couldn’t afford a computer (never mind if they could afford one that could fit in their backpack), has “There always been a screening test for AIDS” to an international student? Aren’t these same kind of generalizations about how people of one category (in this case, age) think or act the same as the assumptions at the base of racism and sexism?
I don’t really see the point of the list either. They say it’s to “slow the rapid onset of ‘hardening of the references,’ in the classroom,” but really it looks more like an “arn’t we cleaver” fluff list for adults to chuckle at their own superiority over. There’s no freshening of references here, just bland generalizations.
I think the list makes Beloit look more pompous than it already is, and I cringe every time I hear it brought up. That’s my rant. I hates it, it burns us. Nothing makes me madder than some pompous blow-hard telling me what I know.
Teehee. I read brian's blog. I got him addicted to the iTunes Music Store. I am the worst friend ever.

I thought it was kind of cute, in a sort of odd, God forsaken “lizard rat” kind of way. It’s posture is the thing that really bothered me, it seems far too comfortable standing up on two legs.

Andy, yeah for the cute burro! I know you probably miss the naked mole rats while your in Mexico, so I went out and found you one very friendly naked (non-mole) rat. Aww. .. isn't she cute?
Tuesday, September 02, 2003
Marty, I think Sara agrees with you. We must post more.
Andy, that is one mighty friendly burro. I think I can honestly say that I have never seen a photograph of a more hospitable burro.
Today's not-so-Spanish lesson: a burrito is a little burro. Enjoy.
Brian, I am shocked to hear that Debz had never gotten around to seeing Desperado. At least that problem is fixed. I know what you mean, though, man. Is everyone in Mexico a fucking hitman?
When I get home, I will watch the Once Upon a Time in Mexico trailer yet again. I've just been listening to the Desperado soundtrack again and have basically already purchased the new film's soundtrack, too. Geek geek geek.
